Introducing: Nivada Grenchen Celebrates 100 Years With A Load of New F77 Mk2 Releases

What We Know

It’s crazy how fast a century sneaks up on you. For Nivada Grenchen, it doesn’t feel like that long at all, especially since the revived brand has largely relied on beloved vintage releases to build a pretty sizable fanbase (again). Last year, we covered the launch of the F77 MkII, which took a rare vintage integrated bracelet design from the brand’s history and turned it into a slimmer, more wearable version, with more heavily downturned lugs. Now, to celebrate 100 years, the brand is launching a large swath of releases that push that modernized aesthetic even further.

Nivada Grenchen F77 Mk2

Due to the sheer number of SKUs launched today, I’ll mostly give a quick overview. All watches you see here are all cased in 38mm by 12.2mm stainless steel with a variety of “tressed” or woven dials in black, grey, white, or blue, or four stone dial options (blue or green aventurine, meteorite, or lapis). The tressed dials come with or without a date, for even more variety, and if you like the more vintage-inspired feel, that’s the direction you’ll want to go. The blue is very vibrant, maybe too much for some people, but the rest of the options are pretty conservative and wearable in a lot of situations.

The watches feature a Soprod P024 automatic movement, each with applied indices and Super-LumiNova dots on the dial (in some cases with white or yellow-toned Super-LumiNova). The stainless steel case has a variety of finishes, from brushing on the flatter surfaces to chamfering and polishing that stands out a bit more on the edges, creating a nice, unified package. This Mk2 version of the F77 is super wearable on a variety of wrists thanks to small tweaks to the case, including the downturned lugs, slimmer profile, and drilled lug holes for more easily swapped bracelets.

Speaking of easily swapped bracelets, there is also a textured canvas velcro strap option. Prices for these watches range from $1,160 to $1,360, depending on the specifications (the stone-dial models are understandably more expensive), so head to the brand’s website for more details and to browse all the options. None of these versions is limited.

What We Think

Nivada Grenchen F77 Mk2

The F77 seems like the strongest integrated bracelet option on the market at this price. It strikes a balance between vintage inspiration and a relatively unique design (or as unique as an integrated bracelet watch) that doesn’t feel like it’s cheating off another modern brand’s homework. I put a lot of stock in that latter part. I liked the F77 Mk2 when I reviewed it last year, and it was about time the brand brought its variety of dial options to the lineup. Now, there’s plenty to choose from.

Call me boring, I don’t care (okay, I care a little, please don’t call me boring), but I prefer something like the meteorite dial or the braided dial. They’re tried-and-true and more wearable day to day. But it’s hard not to be drawn in by the lapis dials, too. Stone dials are having a bit of a moment, and they don’t look to be slowing down any time soon.
