Straum and The Real Time Show Podcast Collaborate on the Jan Mayen Titanium “Stormy Seas”

Straum has teamed up with The Real Time Show, the watch podcast founded by Alon Ben Joseph and Rob Nudds back in 2022, on a new limited edition version of the brand’s popular Jan Mayen sports watch. The new Straum x TRTS Jan Mayen Titanium Stormy Seas complements other editions of the watch well in that it fits in nicely with Straum’s dedication to exploration and adventure, something the brand founders spoke about at length on our own podcast last year.

The new dial variant seen here was inspired directly by an experience Rob had during the 2022 Straum Explorers Club expedition to Jan Mayen, a Norwegian volcanic island that is key to the brand’s story and the genesis for much of its design direction. The dark blue tone is meant to evoke, as the name suggests, a stormy sea. Using blue to represent the ocean on a sports watch is of course not a new concept. If anything, it’s been done to the point where it’s tough to see a blue dial and think of anything but the ocean. Usually, however, it’s done in the service of aspiration. This is an intimidating, ominous blue that would have most level headed people backing away from the ocean and heading to the shore. It communicates something about the brand that Straum would choose to embrace this particular vision of adventure.

The deeply textured dial is complemented by a bright orange seconds hand, a color taken from immersion survival suits used in emergencies at sea. Applied and lume filled hour markers circle the dial, with a minute track receding to the dial’s perimeter. As with other watches in Straum’s catalog with dynamic, colorful dials, there’s little here to compete with the wearer’s viewing of the dramatic texture. That’s a credit to Straum – they know that they have something special with these designs, and to this point they’ve done an admirable job of not corrupting them with extraneous complications, dial text, and the like.

Like other Jan Mayen watches, this one measures 39mm and is crafted from bead blasted, Grade 5 titanium. If you’ve been to recent Windup events, you may have had a chance to put one of these on your own wrist, and they are impressively light and easy to wear. It’s sporty and sleek and certainly reads “tool watch” first, but it does have little polished accents on the bevels that give the case just the right touch of refinement. The watch is mounted to an FKM rubber strap built on the “Straum Coupling” system designed for quick strap changes without the use of a tool. The strap is the product of a great deal of development and a lot of thought has been put into the details, which include internal scalloping for proper ventilation and moulded ends that are designed to match the curve of a wrist and aid in overall comfort.

The watch is powered by the La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement, which has a total of 68 hours of power reserve on a full wind. The case is water resistant to 100 meters, and features a screw down crown and a double domed sapphire crystal.

The Straum x TRTS Jan Mayen Titanium Stormy Seas is currently available for pre-order with the window closing for good on November 20. The retail price is set at $1,930, and deliveries will be completed by February of 2026. More information can be found on the Straum website here.
