Los Angeles

Los Angeles’ formidable dining scene comes from its patchwork of communities, wrangled together in a land of year-round sun and Edenic produce. Driving 45 minutes to a strip mall for a meal doesn’t seem so outlandish here. Neither does brushing shoulders with A-listers at dinner.
Some quick ground rules: For Chinese cuisine, head to the San Gabriel Valley; for Mexican, Boyle Heights. Thai Town, Glendale, and Little Ethiopia are equally essential. Pulitzer Prize-winning critic Jonathan Gold once wrote of this city, “Congratulations! You live in the world’s culinary capital.” Eight years later, those words still ring true. Salud, Los Angeles.
