If you followed the Artemis II mission last week or read my article on the watches worn by the astronauts, this new Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute will not come as a surprise. Still, Breitling is now officially announcing the Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Artemis II, so let’s check it out.

Over time, watches from many brands have made it into space, whether as official equipment (Omega and Fortis, for example) or as some of the personal items astronauts or cosmonauts could bring. Watch and space buffs keep meticulous track of which watches were worn when, and they include Rolex, Seiko, Sinn, Casio, Sturmanskie, Bulova, TAG Heuer, Movado, Oris, and Panerai among the many brands on the long list.

Breitling watches in space

This new Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Artemis II is one of many Breitling watches that went to space. The first was Scott Carpenter’s Navitimer Cosmonaute ref. 809, which is now in the Breitling Museum. Then, in 1996, astronaut Claudie André-Deshays wore another Cosmonaute aboard Soyuz TM-24, with an Aerospace on her other wrist.

And in 2022, astronaut Robert Hines wore a Breitling Navitimer B01 on his trip to the International Space Station aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon “Freedom” spacecraft. More recently, in 2025, ESA astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski also wore a 24-hour Navitimer during a 20-day spaceflight.

In 2026, Breitling gifted all four astronauts of the Artemis II mission a Navitimer B02 Chronograph Cosmonaute Artemis II edition to accompany them on their trip to the Moon. In 1962, as mentioned, NASA astronaut Scott Carpenter wore a Breitling Navitimer with a 24-hour dial. He had specially requested this dial, and after Breitling gladly obliged, NASA launched Carpenter and the resulting watch into space during the Mercury-Atlas 7 mission. Now, over 60 years later, Breitling is in space again. This time, though, the 24-hour Navitimer has something from space as well — a blue meteorite dial.

The facts: Breitling Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Artemis II

Breitling introduces a limited-edition Navitimer Cosmonaute, revisiting the space-oriented chronograph first developed in the early 1960s. The new Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Artemis II has a 41mm stainless steel case with a 13mm thickness, and it retains the familiar proportions of the classic model. It features a bidirectional bezel with the brand’s signature circular slide rule and a cambered sapphire crystal over the dial. In the center of the case back, you’ll find the Artemis II mission patch.

The most distinctive element is the galaxy-blue meteorite dial. Cut from extraterrestrial material and acid-etched to reveal its natural Widmanstätten pattern, each example differs slightly. Breitling has paired the blue meteorite dial with a black slide rule. The three sub-dials are also blue, and a few red accents on the dial complement the central chronograph-seconds hand. As with previous Cosmonaute models, the watch uses a 24-hour display designed to differentiate day and night, a practical feature that Carpenter requested in 1962.

Inside is Breitling’s hand-wound manufacture caliber B02, a COSC-certified chronograph movement with a column wheel and vertical clutch, offering a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters, consistent with its focus on aviation and historical spaceflight rather than aquatic use.

The case back includes engravings referencing the Artemis II mission and the limited production. Breitling delivers this watch on a blue alligator leather strap with a folding clasp.

First impressions

We all saw NASA’s images of this watch, but the meteorite dial still surprised us. It looks neat, and I’ve always fancied the idea of having something from outer space in a watch. The Navitimer (Cosmonaute) is a classic, and this 41mm limited edition is nicely executed. If you collect watches worn in space or linked to it, you have just found yourself a new one!
