If you recently bought poke from Costco, it’s time to check your fridge for an important recall.
On Tuesday, Costco announced a recall of 3,314 pounds (more than a ton) of Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke, produced by Western United Fish Company, doing business as Annasea Foods Group, due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
“This recall was initiated after being notified by our green onion supplier of a Listeria monocytogenes positive test result in the green onions, which were used only in Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke on 9/17/2025,” the company shared in its recall notice. “We are continuing to work with our green onion supplier to determine the root cause.”
The FDA recall notice states that the Costco item number for the poke is 17193, with a sell-by date of September 22, 2025. The product is packaged in a clear plastic clamshell container with the Kirkland Signature brand label printed on the top.
The poke was sold in the deli section of Costco Warehouse stores across 33 states, including Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Per the FDA, there have been no illnesses reported in connection with this recall. However, it also stated that it “can take up to 70 days for symptoms of Listeria infection to develop.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, a Listeria infection can be “very serious for pregnant women, people older than 65, and people with weakened immune systems.” It added that certain foods are more likely to be tainted by the bacteria than others, including soft cheeses, deli meats, and dairy products. The good news is, “Healthy people rarely become very ill from Listeria infection,” however, “the disease can be fatal to unborn babies, newborns, and people with weakened immune systems.”
It also noted that Listeria bacteria can survive “refrigeration and even freezing. So if you’re at higher risk of serious infections, be mindful of what you eat. Stay away from foods that are more likely to contain Listeria bacteria.”
That’s also why the FDA recommends that consumers who have purchased the product dispose of it “immediately, and visit your local Costco for a full refund.”
