Discover Puerto Rico has a new leader at the helm.
Jorge L. Pérez has officially begun his tenure as Chief Executive Officer of the island’s destination marketing organization, following a months-long search and transition process.
Pérez, a seasoned executive with more than 20 years of experience in tourism, economic development and entertainment, takes over after serving as Regional General Manager for Legends/ASM Global. In that role, he oversaw the Puerto Rico Convention Center, Coliseo de Puerto Rico, the Coca-Cola Music Hall and the Antiguo Casino — venues that became some of the highest-performing in the world under his leadership.
His appointment comes at a moment of strong tourism momentum for Puerto Rico, with record-breaking arrivals and an expanded global profile. “Over the past four years, I’ve witnessed a tourism renaissance, and Puerto Rico is uniquely positioned to solidify itself as a global-caliber destination,” Pérez said.
Raúl Bustamante, Chairman of Discover Puerto Rico’s Board, called Pérez’s experience “comprehensive and impeccable,” pointing to his ability to strengthen both leisure and business travel demand. Governor Jenniffer González Colón also lauded the new CEO, calling him a proven leader who has “elevated Puerto Rico’s event venues to a prominent standing” and is now positioned to do the same for the island’s broader tourism industry.
Pérez steps into the role with a mandate to grow Puerto Rico’s brand worldwide, expand air and cruise connectivity, and deepen collaboration between the DMO, government, and the private sector. His immediate focus will be on continuing the island’s tourism surge while building new opportunities in meetings, conventions, and international markets
