Stay Cal Hospitality has opened the doors of voco Ardez Hotel Sunnyvale by IHG, the company’s newest premium hospitality destination in the heart of Silicon Valley. Located at 1101 Elko Drive, the 51-room property offers travelers a distinct nature-rooted design point of view, an original commissioned art program, and a service philosophy rooted in genuine hospitality.
The Ardez was designed and built around a single thesis: nature as the throughline. From a living moss wall in the lobby, to a floor-to-ceiling glass wine cellar, to an original mural program that runs throughout the property, every architectural and artistic decision was made to honor the natural world that surrounds Northern California.
“The Ardez has been a passion project of mine from day one,” said Hiten Suraj, CEO of Stay Cal Hospitality. “We designed and built to LEED Gold standards because the way we build matters as much as what we build.” He continued, “Hospitality, at its best, is about welcoming people home. That’s what we built here in Sunnyvale.”
A Design Story Rooted in an Alpine Village
The hotel takes its name from Ardez — a small Romansh-speaking village high in Switzerland’s Lower Engadin valley, recognized for its hand-painted sgraffito facades and its designation as one of Switzerland’s official model villages for heritage and sustainable tourism. The Ardez carries that ethos forward, translating an alpine village’s tradition of craft and care into a contemporary premium hotel made for Silicon Valley. The property’s design language draws on both Northern California craft and the alpine heritage of the voco brand.
Signature design and amenities include:
- Construction designed and built to LEED Gold standards
- An original commissioned art program: a hand-painted nest mural at the property’s symbolic center, large-scale corridor murals (owl, flamingo, goldfinch) on every floor, and a living moss wall in the lobby
- Verd’e: the property’s signature craft cocktail lounge and restaurant
- A floor-to-ceiling glass-enclosed California wine cellar
- 51 guest rooms with custom floral headboards, soft mint-and-ochre palettes, and dedicated workspaces
- voco brand sustainability standards: 100% recycled-material bedding, refillable bathroom amenities, glass water bottles, and aerated showerheads
- A library-inspired great room, dedicated boardroom, and modern fitness center
- A dedicated Full Swing golf simulator suite
