
Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, the 1,307-room modern oceanfront resort located in the heart of walkable Waikiki, today announced the promotion of Dionisio “Dion” Danao to Executive Chef, along with the appointment of Wesley Leong as Director of Finance & Accounting, further strengthening the resort’s executive leadership team.
In his new role, Chef Dion will oversee all culinary operations for the resort, including menu development, kitchen operations, staff leadership and strategic culinary initiatives across the property’s diverse dining venues. He will report directly to Chad Bevan, Director of Food and Beverage.
Dion brings more than three decades of experience with Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, having begun his culinary career at the property in December 1993. Throughout his tenure, he has held a series of progressive leadership roles including Lead Cook, Assistant Sous Chef, and Working Sous Chef, before serving as Executive Sous Chef since December 2005. His long-standing commitment and deep institutional knowledge have made him an integral part of the resort’s culinary evolution. Exhibiting Marriott’s “Spirit to Serve,” Dion is known for his dedication to mentoring team members, fostering a collaborative kitchen culture, and supporting sustainability and community initiatives. He has been recognized as Manager of the Quarter and has completed multiple professional development programs through Marriott and the culinary industry, including Foundations of Leadership.

As part of the resort’s continued growth, Wesley Leong joins as Director of Finance & Accounting, bringing extensive experience across hospitality, restaurant and real estate finance. He has held key leadership roles including CFO/Controller for Maui Brewing Company Restaurants, as well as finance leadership positions with Shari’s Management Corporation, D.R. Horton–Schuler Homes, and additional Marriott properties in Waikiki.
In his new role, Leong will oversee all financial operations for the resort, with a focus on strengthening financial controls, optimizing performance, and supporting long-term strategic growth. He is known for developing high-performing teams and driving operational excellence.
