This Belize Resort Just Got a New Name — and a New Brand

The palms are still leaning toward the water in Placencia. The marina is still busy with skiffs easing in and out. But one of southern Belize’s best-known beachfront resorts is entering a new chapter.

The Belize Collection has officially taken over management of what will now be called the Blue Reef Beach Resort and Marina, the Placencia property long known to travelers as Robert’s Grove Beach Resort.

The transition brings the entire waterfront operation under the Belize Collection umbrella, including Blue Reef Beach Resort itself, Blue Reef Island, the full-service marina and the property’s two on-site restaurants.

Robert’s Grove has been part of the village’s tourism fabric for decades, a familiar presence along the peninsula’s calm Caribbean shoreline. Under its new name and management, Blue Reef Beach Resort will remain open and operating without interruption, but the direction is evolving.

Blue Reef Beach now joins a small but growing portfolio of resorts operated by The Belize Collection, whose properties are clustered across southern Belize. The group is best known for The Lodge at Jaguar Reef on the Placencia Peninsula and The Rainforest Lodge at Sleeping Giant, set inland along the Belize River Valley.

That philosophy will guide the transition at Blue Reef. According to the company, the goal is not to reinvent the resort, but to build on its legacy while raising standards across operations, service and guest experience.

Placencia itself remains the constant. The village has long been one of Belize’s most appealing coastal destinations, known for its walkable sidewalk, fishing culture and easy access to both reef and jungle adventures. Blue Reef Beach Resort sits directly on the beach, with views across the Caribbean Sea and a marina that makes it a natural base for snorkeling, diving, fishing and island-hopping to nearby cayes.

As part of the management transition, The Belize Collection said it was planning updates across the guest experience, from operations to dining. One of the most immediate changes will be in the kitchens. Executive Chef Rahim Melendez will oversee the resort’s culinary program, bringing his own creative perspective to the property’s two on-site restaurants.

The Belize Collection says its broader management philosophy is centered on creating places that feel genuinely connected to where they are.

“We are excited to steward Blue Reef Resort into its next phase, building on its legacy while introducing the level of care and consistency that defines our brand,” said Ian Lizarraga, managing partner of The Belize Collection.
