Hotels worldwide continue to feel pressure from online travel agencies (OTAs), yet the severity of the challenge differs sharply by region. The World Parity Monitor — Regional Edition 2025 by 123Compare.me shows that the chances of a hotel being undercut by an OTA vary sharply by region.
The toughest scenario is in LATAM, where OTAs undercut direct rates in 39% of searches. North America follows at 37%, with MEA at 34% and APAC at 33%. Europe remains the most balanced, yet hotels are still undercut in 30% of cases.
The data also reveals clear patterns across regions. In LATAM, local and regional OTAs often lead disparities on their own. In North America, undercutting is typically initiated by local platforms, with major OTAs matching those lower prices rather than starting them. A similar trend appears in APAC and MEA, where regional players frequently trigger rate drops. Europe shows more balance, yet local intermediaries still tend to move first, with global OTAs following instead of leading.
“Parity is often described as a global problem. In reality, it plays out as a series of regional battles,” said Jordi Serra, CEO of 123Compare.me. “A hotel in LATAM, Europe, or MEA does not face the same dynamics. The players and the tactics differ, and that is why hoteliers need visibility at both global and regional levels.”
