There’s new leadership at one of The Bahamas’ biggest resorts.
Grand Hyatt Baha Mar on Cable Beach has appointed longtime Hyatt executive Steven J. Smith as Managing Director, the property announced this week.
Smith brings more than 40 years of experience with Hyatt to the role, including leadership positions at some of the brand’s largest urban and resort hotels across the United States.
At Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, Smith will oversee daily operations and long-term strategy for the resort, working with the executive team as the property continues to expand its luxury and family travel footprint in The Bahamas.
“I’m thrilled to begin this next chapter at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, a resort so deeply shaped by the vibrant culture and spirit of The Bahamas,” Smith said in a statement provided to Caribbean Journal. “I look forward to being part of this community, working alongside the fantastic Baha Mar team and building on the warm hospitality that makes the resort so special for guests.”
A Veteran Hyatt Executive
Smith most recently served as General Manager of Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Villas in San Antonio, Texas, where he led operations with a focus on revenue growth, guest satisfaction and team culture.
His Hyatt career has also included General Manager roles at Hyatt Regency Houston, Grand Hyatt Washington, Hyatt Regency Washington, Hyatt Regency Long Beach and Hyatt Regency Bellevue.
Over the years, Smith has earned recognition across the hospitality industry, including being named General Manager of the Year by the Hotel Association of Washington, D.C.
He has also served on tourism and hospitality boards including Destination DC and Visit Houston.
One of The Bahamas’ Largest Resorts
The appointment comes as Grand Hyatt Baha Mar continues to position itself as one of the Caribbean’s leading large-format resorts.
The property has more than 1,800 guestrooms, suites and residences on Nassau’s Cable Beach, along with a large casino, extensive pool complex and the 200,000-square-foot Baha Mar Convention, Art and Entertainment Center.
Food and beverage has become a central focus for the resort in recent years, with more than 40 dining concepts across the wider Baha Mar destination.
That includes Marcus at Baha Mar Fish + Chop House by chef Marcus Samuelsson and the recently opened Leola, the new restaurant from chef Scott Conant.
