Buchinger Wilhelmi Marbella has announced the opening of Casa La Mariposa, the former private villa of founder Maria Buchinger, daughter of fasting pioneer Dr Otto Buchinger. Available to guests for the first time, the villa introduces a more secluded and personalised approach to medically supervised wellness stays, while also welcoming accompanying children and dogs, a rare offering within the world of medical wellness retreats.

Maria Buchinger’s Home, Your Retreat

For many years, Casa La Mariposa served as the personal residence of Maria Buchinger during her time in Marbella. It was here that she established the calm and structured lifestyle that continues to shape the philosophy of Buchinger Wilhelmi today, from morning yoga on the veranda to swimming, meditation and time spent in the villa’s tranquil gardens.

“Our grandmother spent a significant part of her life in Marbella, and the villa was her personal sanctuary,” says Katharina Rohrer-Zaiser, Managing Director of Buchinger Wilhelmi Marbella. “Opening Casa La Mariposa to guests allows us to share a deeply personal part of the Buchinger Wilhelmi story, while responding to growing demand for greater privacy and flexibility within wellness stays.”

A Personalised Experience to the Clinic’s Offering

The launch of Casa La Mariposa reflects increasing demand for private, fully supported wellness experiences. Guests staying at the villa can undertake either the Buchinger therapeutic fasting programme or a regenerative dietary programme, while continuing to benefit from full access to the clinic’s medical expertise, facilities and holistic treatments.

Each stay includes a dedicated 24 hour on-site nurse, medical consultations within the villa, personalised nutritional guidance, meals prepared by the clinic and served privately, housekeeping services and a 24 hour concierge and assistance service. Additional therapies including physiotherapy, psychotherapy, yoga, Pilates and personal training can also be arranged either at the villa or across the clinic grounds.

Inspired by the rhythm of a traditional Buchinger day, experiences are carefully structured around movement, rest and restoration, from guided morning beach walks and meditation sessions to therapeutic treatments and quiet evenings within the gardens.

Building and Facilities

Carefully renovated and adapted for its new purpose, Casa La Mariposa takes its name from the Spanish word for “butterfly”, symbolising transformation and renewal at the heart of the Buchinger method.

The villa comprises several private residential spaces alongside dedicated indoor and outdoor wellness areas, including a heated swimming pool, outdoor garden sauna, treatment rooms, yoga and Pilates studio, meditation garden and private gym. Tropical planting, medicinal herbs and secluded outdoor spaces create a calm and restorative atmosphere throughout the property.

The interiors were developed in collaboration with renowned concept store La Fábrica de Hielo and designer Andres Sauceda, incorporating selected works from Maria Buchinger’s private art collection. “We have worked carefully over several years to develop this concept, gradually adapting the villa step by step,” says Victor Wilhelmi, Managing Director of Buchinger Wilhelmi Marbella.

Designed for Privacy, Families and Small Groups

Casa La Mariposa is designed for up to four guests undertaking the Buchinger Wilhelmi programme, while also accommodating accompanying family members, children, friends or staff. Families travelling with children can also benefit from access to Marbella Club Kids Club experiences upon request.

Whether for couples, families, small groups or private wellness retreats, stays are individually tailored according to each guest’s needs. Casa La Mariposa is available on a private basis with a minimum seven night stay. Prices are available on request.
