Vintage Favre Leuba Chronograph
Got a nice one to start off this week, this vintage Favre Leuba chronograph. The chunky 35mm cushion case is gold plated, and is in excellent condition. Nice edges and original brushed finish with stainless steel back. The back has the cool Favre Leuba hourglass logo engraved. It has a really nice chocolate brown dial with gold hands and applied gold hour markers. The subdials are also the same color brown, with red accents on the 3 o’clock dial. The large winding crown is also signed with the hourglass logo as it should. The gold and brown combo gives it a rich look. The watch is powered by the venerable Valjoux 23 manual wind chronograph movement. I have a chronograph with the same movement, and I can tell you that it is as buttery smooth as they come. The movement is clean and the watch runs well per the seller.
Grand Seiko 4522-8000
Next up is a fantastic vintage Grand Seiko 4522-8000 hi-beat dress watch. The 36mm steel case is the epitome of Seiko’s “Grammar of Design” aesthetic, with broad flat planes, razor sharp edges, and a mix of brushed and polished finishes. Often these have been polished, and even the slightest polishing ruins the case. This example is unpolished and you can enjoy the design in all its glory. Even the gold caseback GS medallion is in perfect condition with no wear at all. The serial number on the back dates this gem to November 1968. The classic Seiko silver dial has aged to a nice mellow patina, which is actually kind of uncommon with these. Faceted, applied steel markers and steel dauphine hands and a date window at 3 o’clock are all superbly finished as is the hallmark of Grand Seiko. The correct crown is signed with the GS logo as it should be. The Seiko caliber 4522A manual wind movement is clean as a whistle and runs well per the seller. Great looking, unpolished and original Grand Seiko if you don’t mind the dial patina.
Vintage Wittnauer
Here’s a great little vintage Wittnauer with a really nice vintage look. The steel case has an octagonal shape, and is in really nice condition. The seller doesn’t state the size, but I’m going to guess it’s in the 33-34mm range, but you may want to message the seller to be sure if you’re interested. The silver dial has a quadrant thing going on with the textured finish, and appears to be in good condition as well. The hour markers are slim as are the hands, and there is no date window to mess with the symmetry. The original crown is signed with the Wittnauer “W” logo as it should. There are no pictures of the movement, but the watch runs well per the seller. Great looking piece from a respectable brand that shouldn’t break the bank. Be aware this one ends Friday night so be quick if you like it!
Vintage Seiko 6309-7049 Turtle
You want a vintage diver? Well here ya go! This is the iconic vintage Seiko 6309-7049 diver, and it’s a beauty. It really doesn’t get much better than the 6309, and this diver is definitely the king of “bang for you buck”! The 44mm wide cushion case is superb, with the original brushed finish and sharp edges. The recessed crown at 4 o’clock is correct and original. The elapsed time diver’s bezel is original, with only a few scratches. The dial is original and in perfect condition. There were two dial variations made, the “Suwa dial” with the Suwa factory symbol, and the “non-Suwa dial”, with no logo and longer text just at the bottom edge of the dial. This is the latter version. The hands are mint with no black funk, and the lume on the dial looks perfect. These don’t show up too often for auction in good, all-original condition, so now’s your chance. This example comes on an Uncle Seiko aftermarket bracelet, and it suits the watch perfectly. The movement is clean and runs well per the seller. You absolutely cannot go wrong with a 6309 diver!
Vintage Longines Comet
Wow, here’s a super cool and super funky vintage Longines Comet mystery dial watch. The vertical rectangular steel case is in great shape, and has an unusual look. This look pairs perfectly with the absolutely wild bright yellow mystery dial! The yellow and black bullseye style dial has two rotating discs with a stationary ring between that has the hour markers. The outer ring rotates and has a dot that indicates the minute, and the inner ring rotates with a huge white arrow to indicate the hour. Really crazy and eye-catching look. The crown is correct and signed with the Longines logo. The watch even comes on the original Longines signed bracelet! There is no movement pictures, but the watch runs well per the seller. These are quite scarce and it’s been a long time since I’ve seen one for sale.
Vintage Seiko 5206-6110 LordMatic
When it rains it pours, and this week it’s raining Seikos! To close us out this week I present this beautiful vintage Seiko LordMatic Special 5206-6110. The LordMatics (LM) were a higher end sporty/dress watch line that were a step down from the King Seiko line. This example has a fancy case, with sharp edges and hidden lugs that have a curved edge on the top and bottom of the watch. The two-tone silver dial has a shinier outer track that makes the whole dial stand out. The day/date window has a Kanji day wheel, indicating this was a Japanese domestic market release. The watch also comes on the super narrow beads of rice style bracelet, with the LM signed buckle. The automatic movement is clean and runs well per the seller. This is a fantastic vintage Seiko that rivals their higher end pieces in quality but should go for much less than a King or Grand Seiko.
