Four Seasons Resort Seychelles announces the appointment of Dr Katrina (Kat) Himpson as the resort’s new Marine Conservation Specialist, bringing with her a unique blend of veterinary expertise, conservation science, and a deep passion for protecting the ocean.

Originally from Scotland, Dr Kat began her professional career as a veterinarian, working closely with both wildlife and domestic animals. These early experiences sparked a profound appreciation for the natural world and inspired her to expand her impact beyond animal care to ecosystem protection. She went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Conservation from the University of Exeter, marking the beginning of her journey into marine conservation.

Dr Kat joined Four Seasons Resort Landaa Giraavaru in the Maldives in 2022 as a Turtle Specialist within the resort’s renowned Marine Discovery Centre. Her dedication and expertise soon led to her promotion to Marine Centre Manager, where she led coral reef restoration initiatives and spearheaded community outreach programs, strengthening connections between guests, local communities, and the fragile marine ecosystems surrounding the island.

During her time in the Maldives, she developed and implemented a multi-year marine education program designed to support young Maldivians pursuing careers in marine science and conservation, including securing university funding opportunities for promising students. She also published a scientific paper on marine turtle rehabilitation in 2023 and presented her research at several national conferences. In addition, she oversaw the development of coral restoration, sustainable aquaculture, and turtle rehabilitation projects, contributing to new restoration methods, aquaculture initiatives, and multiple scientific publications produced by her team.

Now embarking on a new chapter with Four Seasons Resort Seychelles, Dr Kat brings both scientific knowledge and an infectious enthusiasm for the ocean to Petite Anse. Her work focuses not only on conservation initiatives but also on inspiring meaningful connections between people and the marine world.

At the resort, she will help guide marine conservation programs and guest experiences that highlight the extraordinary biodiversity of Seychelles’ waters, while continuing to support research and environmental stewardship.

Outside of her professional work, Dr Kat enjoys running, freediving, and underwater photography-pursuits that allow her to further explore and celebrate the ocean environments she is dedicated to protecting.

With her arrival, Four Seasons Resort Seychelles continues its commitment to marine conservation, education, and immersive experiences that foster a lasting appreciation for the natural world. New marine biology programs and experiences led by Dr Kat will be announced and rolled out in the coming months.
