eBay Finds is back! This bi-monthly installment will feature a selection of watches currently listed on eBay that have caught the eye of editor Christoph McNeil (@vintagediver). If you come across any hidden gems on the ‘Bay drop us a note at [email protected] for potential inclusion.
Vintage Wyler Dynawind
Got some great Finds for you this week, beginning with this super cool and seldom seen vintage Wyler Dynawind. The stainless steel case is made in an octagonal shape, with nice angled lugs that match. The case appears unpolished, with sharp corners and clearly legible caseback engravings. No mention of the case size, but I’d guess it’s in the 35mm range. The black dial has really unique chevron shaped steel inlays on either side, complementing the angles of the case perfectly. Steel dauphine hands and no date window complete the angular, symmetrical design. The crown is signed with the Wyler “W” logo as it should. No movement pictures but it runs per the seller. The watch is on a vintage steel stretch band, but this would look sharp with a nice black croc strap in my opinion.
Vintage Seiko DX
Next up is a lovely vintage Seiko DX in superb condition. The 36mm steel case is unpolished, with sharp edges and original brushed and polished finish. The case has integrated lugs that attach to the original steel bracelet with a Seiko signed buckle. The dial is a beautiful, two tone bullseye design, with silver in the middle and a blue outer circle. The blue outer track has thin white minute marks, and of course there is the ubiquitous Seiko day/date window at 3 o’clock. Steel hour and minute hands along with an orange second hand complete the look. The dial and hands are in excellent condition. There are no movement pictures, but it runs well per the seller.
Hamilton Chrono-Matic Fontainebleau
Next up we have a neat one, a vintage Hamilton Chrono-Matic Fontainebleau. This Hamilton chronograph is a wild one, with a distinctive horizontal oval-ish case with the Hamilton “H” signed crown on the left and pushers on the right. The case is unpolished with sharp edges and the original finish. Even the caseback engraving is super sharp, with the original frosted finish medallion in the middle. I’m really not too sure if there’s a story behind this unusual look, but I dig it! The panda dial is silver with dual black chrono sub-dials, and a black outer track that has applied steel hour markers. There is a date window at 6 o’clock, which looks great on this dial. Steel sword hands with lume filled channels. The dial and hands are in excellent, original condition. The original crystal is in great condition as well, no chips or cracks I can see, and this would be a tough one to replace! This beauty comes with a bracelet that has a Hamilton buckle signed with the “H”. Even though the bracelet itself isn’t original apparently, it sure looks the part. Honestly, this one looks like New Old Stock. Again, no movement pictures of the Hamilton Caliber 11 movement, but it does run. HOWEVER, it does not keep proper time nor does the chronograph reset precisely. Normally I wouldn’t show a piece that needs servicing, but this one is otherwise so mint and so cool, I wanted to share it with those brave enough to give it a shot and get it serviced.
Vintage Zodiac Olympos
If the one above is a bit of a project with it being in need of servicing, this one is the opposite. Another watch with unusual yet amazing styling, this vintage Zodiac Olympos is a real standout. These are somewhat tough to find in anywhere near presentable condition, and this one is more than presentable. The 36mm asymmetrical steel case is in good shape, gently polished but still sharp. It has a horned look with its vertical asymmetry, and it kind of has a spaceship feel to it. It is what’s known as a mystery dial watch, where the hour hand is painted on a central disc that rotates beneath the traditional minute hand. This gives the hour hand a floating appearance. The dial is silver, with a silver outer track that looks a lot like the chapter ring from a Universal Geneve Polerouter. The crown is recessed at 2 o’clock, an unusual position but it totally works with this case. The crown is signed with the Zodiac logo as it should. Once again, there is no movement picture (what’s up with these sellers??), however the seller states this watch was recently serviced and runs strong.
Vintage Omega Seamaster DeVille
This vintage Omega Seamaster DeVille presentation watch is a classic Omega dress watch. The 34mm case is solid 14k yellow gold and in excellent condition. It is a 25 year service award from GM and is engraved on the back. I love pieces like this where you can literally read the history of the watch right on the caseback! The silver dial is original and mint, with applied gold stick markers and gold stick hands and a date window at 3 o’clock. The deeply knurled crown is correct and original and signed with the Omega symbol as it should. The acrylic crystal is original, and if you look closely in the first picture you can see the little Omega symbol in the middle of the crystal. The watch is powered by the Omega automatic caliber 563 movement, but sadly there is no picture. That said, the watch runs well per the seller.
Seiko 6306-7001 Turtle
Going to send you off with a banger, a killer vintage Seiko 6306-7001 diver. This is the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) version of the iconic 6309 diver. Like the name suggests, this model was only sold in Japan. There are two differences between this model and the more commonly found 6309. The first is that the day wheel is in English and Kanji (the 6309 does not have Kanji), and the movement on this one hacks, whereas the 6309 does not. Small but not insignificant differences. The iconic 44mm steel case is excellent and unpolished, with the original brushed and polished finishes. The caseback is also in great shape, and the serial number dates this to October 1978. The classic black dial is original and a beauty, as are the hands. The original aluminum bezel insert is near perfect. The movement is clean and runs well per the seller. This rare gem even comes with the original A06BZ22 strap, something rarely seen. The 6306 divers are not so common, and rarely come up for auction in this condition.
