Glenys Margaret Hanna-Martin has been appointed as the new Minister of Tourism in The Bahamas, becoming the first-ever woman to be named to the role, following the announcement of the new cabinet of Prime Minister Philip Davis.
Hanna-Martin succeeds outgoing Tourism Minister Chester Cooper, who following last week’s elections is now serving as the country’s Minister of Education, Science and Technology, while remaining the country’s Deputy Prime Minister.
She had previously served as Minister of Education. She has been member of Parliament since 2002. She had also served from 2012-2017 as the country’s Minister of Transport and Aviation, two areas that are a major priority for the destination right now.
“With decades of distinguished public service and leadership across key national portfolios, Minister Hanna-Martin brings a wealth of experience, perspective, and commitment to this important responsibility,” said Latin Duncombe, Director General of The Bahamas’ Ministry of Tourism, in a statement. “We look forward to supporting her vision as she leads one of the country’s most vital industry into its next chapter.”
The Bahamas has been seeing surging visitor numbers so far in 2026.
