Air Canada is adding a new nonstop route linking Vancouver and Guanacaste, creating a direct connection between western Canada and Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast, Caribbean Journal has learned.
The seasonal service is set to begin December 13 and run through April 12, aligning with peak winter travel demand as Canadian travelers look for warm-weather destinations.
Flight Details and Schedule
The new route will operate twice weekly, giving travelers consistent midweek and weekend options during the winter season.
Air Canada plans to operate the service with a Boeing 737 MAX 8, configured with both business and economy cabins.
Morning arrival times into Guanacaste mean travelers can land and reach beach destinations the same day.
Why This Route Matters
This new nonstop eliminates the need to connect through eastern Canadian gateways like Toronto or Montreal, significantly shortening travel time for passengers departing from British Columbia and the broader western Canada market.
It also strengthens Guanacaste’s position as one of the most important tourism gateways in Costa Rica, particularly for international travelers heading to the country’s Pacific coast.
For Costa Rica, the route expands its reach deeper into Canada, opening a new stream of visitors from a region that previously required longer, multi-stop journeys.
Where This Flight Takes You
Guanacaste’s international airport is the gateway to some of Costa Rica’s most popular coastal destinations, including Tamarindo, Playa Flamingo, Nosara, and Sámara.
Travelers use this airport to reach a mix of beach towns, surf destinations, and resort communities along the Pacific coast.
Part of a Bigger Winter Push
The new Vancouver–Guanacaste service is part of Air Canada’s broader winter strategy focused on sun destinations, adding more nonstop options to high-demand leisure markets.
For travelers, the addition means a more direct path from Canada’s west coast to Costa Rica — and another easy option for winter travel to the region.
