The Rivanera Gets Echo/Neutralized By Seconde/Seconde/

It’s always fun to see a seconde/seconde/ take on a popular watch. With the many whimsical releases Romaric André created while collaborating with brands, you sometimes wonder whether he is ever short of good ideas. So far, though, that hasn’t been a problem. If anything, I have seen the releases become better over time. The latest proof of that is a fun take on the Echo/Neutra Rivanera, the Italian brand’s popular dress watch. The basic idea is simple: when the Rivanera meets seconde/seconde/, the echo gets neutralized.

One glance at the new Rivanera + seconde/seconde/ limited edition was enough for me to instantly love the new release. But that was just a quick look at a familiar watch featuring a new blue dial with a nice hobnail pattern. Once I started reading about the concept behind the dial, my love for this fun take on a stylish dress watch only grew. The central idea that André came up with was simple: “To make it iconic, I made it anechoic.”

The creative idea behind the Echo/Neutra Rivanera + seconde/seconde/ limited edition

That last sentence might sound a bit cryptic when you first read it. For those unfamiliar, an anechoic chamber is designed to absorb reflections and eliminate echoes. The idea of eliminating echoes has become the concept for this new release. Of course, this is a fun play on the brand name, as we will see in the design. But there is more to it than just playing with the brand name.

Anechoic chambers are used for precise, reflection-free testing of microphones, speakers, and antennas. Often, these spaces are lined with wedge-shaped damping foam. This material has become the central visual theme for the dial. So what looked like a traditional hobnail dial tells a completely different, lighthearted story that translates well into the design.

The basics of the Echo/Neutra Rivanera + seconde/seconde/ limited edition

The canvas for this collaboration is the inaugural version of the Echo/Neutra’s popular dress watch. For many members of the Fratello team, the refreshingly modern take on the classic dress watch was one of the highlights of 2024. I was fortunate enough to review the first two Rivanera models and add the gray-dial version to my watch collection. Although I am selective about wearing it because I want to keep it in great condition, it’s one of the watches I love strapping on my wrist the most. It has also been on my wrist for special occasions, which only deepens my connection with the watch.

As a result, I am always curious to find out more about any new Rivanera. When the press release for this collaboration with seconde/seconde/ landed in my inbox, I was more than curious what they had come up with. The canvas is the standard Rivanera with its 27 × 40 × 5.9mm Grade 5 titanium case. Retaining its sandblasted finish and polished chamfers, the lightweight case hasn’t lost any of its impact. The visual delight of seeing that special case impresses me every time.

The conceptual story translates to a vibrant blue dial

But the big story is, of course, the new dial. It is a beautiful, vibrant blue, and the hobnail pattern, inspired by the foam on the walls of anechoic chambers, adds a lot of detail. Located at 12 o’clock, you will find the Echo/Neutra logo. But as you can see, a light blue line strikes through the word “echo,” indicating the dampening properties of the foam that inspired the concept.

At 6 o’clock, you will find the beautifully executed small seconds sub-dial. Essentially, it is a polished dark gray ring holding the 60-second scale. Hovering over the sub-dial is a small hand that matches the style and execution of the central hour and minute hands.

All three hands match the polished chamfers of the case, adding visual brilliance to the design and contrasting nicely with the blue backdrop. As a result, this stylish new dial gives the watch a completely different look compared to the standard models. The watch comes with a blue alligator-style calf leather strap and a gray suede strap, each with a branded Grade 5 titanium buckle. Both look awesome and nicely switch up the watch’s aesthetic.

Final specs and thoughts on the new Echo/Neutra Rivanera + seconde/seconde/ limited edition

The new watch is powered by the same ETA/Peseux 7001 that also powers my Rivanera. The manual-winding caliber operates at 21,600 vph, has 17 jewels, and offers a 42-hour power reserve. It is an ideal movement to keep the watch incredibly slim and, therefore, easy to wear.

From experience, I can say that the Rivanera wears like a dream. The watch weighs only 28 grams thanks to the lightweight titanium construction. On top of that, the incredibly slim and beautifully proportioned case sits well on a variety of wrist sizes. Because of this, I am sure that all new owners who get their hands on one of the 50 available pieces of the Rivanera + seconde/seconde/ will absolutely adore wearing this watch.
