Atlantis Paradise Island Just Named a New General Manager for The Reef

Atlantis Paradise Island has named a new general manager for one of its flagship luxury properties, continuing a series of leadership updates at the Bahamas resort as it refines operations across its hotel portfolio.

The Reef is one of our favorite option at Atlantis, with a great residential-style format that makes it particularly good for families.

Lenny Cumberbatch has been appointed Vice President and General Manager of The Reef at Atlantis Paradise Island, where he will oversee all hotel operations at the residential-style luxury tower. In the role, Food and Beverage oversight has also been expanded to include both The Reef and The Cove, two of the resort’s most premium accommodations.

The appointment places Cumberbatch in charge of one of Atlantis’ most distinct guest experiences, with a focus on both residential-style stays and high-end service delivery within the broader resort ecosystem.

A Key Role Inside Atlantis’ Hotel Mix

The Reef operates as a different kind of stay within Atlantis.

The property is positioned as a residential-style tower, with studio suites and multi-bedroom accommodations designed for longer stays and repeat guests who want full kitchens, living space, and direct access to the resort’s amenities.

From The Reef, guests are connected to the wider Atlantis experience — including Aquaventure, the marine habitats, and the resort’s extensive dining portfolio — while maintaining a more private, apartment-style environment.

Oversight of Food and Beverage across both The Reef and The Cove brings two distinct guest profiles under one leadership structure. The Cove, with its adults-oriented positioning and higher-end dining venues, operates differently from The Reef’s family-focused, residential approach.

That dual responsibility is expected to align service standards and operational consistency across both properties.

Cumberbatch’s Path to the Role

Cumberbatch joined Atlantis in 2024 as Vice President of Food and Beverage, a role that placed him across one of the largest and most complex dining operations in the Caribbean.

His experience within Atlantis is not new. Prior leadership roles have also been held at the resort, along with positions across the region, including SLS Baha Mar in Nassau and The Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort in Saint Lucia.

Those roles have spanned both large-scale resort operations and villa-based luxury properties, providing experience across different guest models — from high-volume integrated resorts to more contained, residential-style stays.

He also holds a postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration from the University of Roehampton and serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of The Bahamas, maintaining a connection to hospitality education in the region.

Operational Focus at The Reef

The Reef’s positioning requires a specific operational approach.

Guests often stay longer, use in-room kitchens, and balance time between private space and shared resort amenities. Service is expected to accommodate both independence and full resort access.

With Food and Beverage now included under his leadership scope for both The Reef and The Cove, greater coordination is expected between dining experiences and guest flow across the two properties.

That includes everything from in-room dining to restaurant access, along with how guests transition between the quieter residential environment of The Reef and the broader Atlantis footprint.

Leadership Perspective

The appointment has been framed internally as a continuation of Atlantis’ focus on operational consistency across its hotel portfolio.

From Cumberbatch’s perspective, the role centers on refining the experience at a property that already serves a defined segment of Atlantis guests.

“The Reef offers all the elements for a luxurious, family-friendly and secluded retreat,” he said, noting a focus on both first-time visitors and returning guests.

The appointment reflects a broader emphasis on leadership alignment across Atlantis’ multi-property structure.

Atlantis Paradise Island operates as a collection of distinct hotels — including The Royal, The Cove, The Coral, Harborside Resort, and The Reef — each with its own positioning, guest profile, and operational needs.

Placing leadership across multiple properties, particularly at the higher end of the portfolio, has become a key part of maintaining consistency while allowing each property to retain its identity.

For The Reef, that includes maintaining its residential-style offering while remaining fully integrated into the larger Atlantis experience.
