Vintage Bulova Ardsley
We start off this week with a sweet little vintage Bulova dress watch from 1953. The seller doesn’t state the size but it’s going to be in the 25mm range. But while it’s small in stature, it’s mighty in the style department. The yellow rolled gold case has fancy lugs and a thick acrylic crystal that is like a little pyramid, divided into four angled quadrants, which give it a very cool look. The original crown is signed with the Bulova logo. The champagne/silver dial is original and in great condition, featuring stylized Arabic numerals and dot markers along a sub-seconds dial at 6 and sword hands. The case of course shows some wear, but watches of this era seldom don’t . The Bulova manual wind caliber 10BT movement is clean and runs well per the seller. Nice stylish piece that shouldn’t stress the wallet.
Grand Seiko 5646-7010
And now I won’t keep you waiting any longer for the gem of this week’s finds, which is this spectacular vintage 1972 Grand Seiko 5646-7010. This beauty is the epitome of Seiko’s famous Grammar of Design aesthetic, with broad, flat planes and contrasting highly polished and brushed surfaces with sharp edges. The 36mm steel case is unpolished, with razor sharp edges and beautiful original finishing. This watch is the prime example of why you never want to polish a vintage watch! The case back is crisp as well, and the gold “GS” medallion is in perfect condition. The serial number on the back dates this watch to April 1972. The slightly recessed crown at 3 o’clock is signed with the “GS” logo as it should. The silver dial is very simple and elegant, with slim stick markers and slim steel hands. The finishing on these vintage Grand Seikos is second to none. There is a day/date window at 3 o’clock, and the day wheel has both English and Kanji. This beauty is powered by the automatic caliber 5646A movement, and it is as clean as the rest of the watch. Per the seller, the watch is running well and keeping time, and the day/date quickset feature is working properly. If you’ve been pining for a vintage Grand Seiko (and you should be!), this one is worth a long look.
Vintage Tissot Seastar
This vintage Tissot Seastar is a great looking sporty daily wearer. The 35mm steel case has broad lugs that curve straight from the case. The watch is unpolished, showing the original horizontal brushed finish on the case and nicely polished bezel. The large crown at 3 o’clock is signed with the Tissot “T” logo. The silver dial looks original and in excellent condition, with a classic radial brushed finish. Simple stick markers and stick hands give this watch the quintessential 1960s look, with a date window at 3 o’clock. The watch comes with the original Oyster style steel bracelet, with the signed deployant buckle. Unfortunately, no pictures of the case back or movement, but it runs well per the seller. Nice quality piece that looks great and should go for a reasonable price.
Vintage Zodiac Sea Wolf
Next up is a sweet one, a superb vintage Zodiac Sea Wolf. There were many iterations of the Sea Wolf, and this is one of the earlier ones with the metal bezel. The bezel is plated brass in a matte finish that is easily worn off. However, this example is in incredible condition that is not often seen these days. The steel case is also excellent and unpolished. If I recall correctly, the case size on these is 35mm (give or take). This is the black dial with date version (these were made in black or white dial, with or without date). The black dial looks original and is in fantastic condition. The large lume filled triangle markers at 12, 6 and 9 are in great shape, and the lume looks original as does the lume on the unique broad triangle hands. The snap on case back looks great with almost no tool marks. The large crown is original and signed with the Zodiac logo as it should. These early Sea Wolf models are getting increasingly difficult to find in good, original condition, and this is the best example I’ve seen in years. There is no movement picture, but the watch runs per the seller.
Vintage Quartzmatic LED
It’s been a minute since I’ve found a good vintage LED for our readers, so I’m pleased to have come across this great vintage Quartzmatic! This watch looks like New Old Stock – it’s in such great condition. The steel case has a brilliant horizontal brushed finish with polished bevels. The integrated bracelet looks like a perfect extension of the case. The LED glass is scratch free with perfect lettering for the Quartzmatic name plus their quartz logo symbol. Seller states the watch runs and it looks like all the LED segments are functioning. Just a perfect example of 1970s tech on the wrist, with Space Age looks!
1969 Omega Speedmaster Chronograph Mark II 145.014
Going to wrap up this week’s Finds with a biggie, this fantastic vintage Omega Speedmaster Mark II chronograph! The Mark II was a ‘newer’ variation on the original, classically designed Speedmaster, with a tonneau shaped case that has hidden lugs and the tachymetre bezel is internal rather than external. The case is 42mm wide, and in nice condition. The sapphire crystal is scratch free per the seller. Under that crystal, the dial has aged to a beautiful chocolate color, with perfectly aged lume. The layout of the dial is essentially the same as the classic Speedmaster. The crown is of course signed with the Omega logo as it should. The watch comes on the original and correct bracelet, with the signed deployant buckle. The watch is powered by the iconic and robust Omega caliber 861 manual wind chronograph movement. The distinctive movement is clean and in great shape, working well per the seller. Doesn’t get much better than this!
