The Dominican Republic’s Biggest Tourism Marketplace Is Set for April

The Dominican Republic’s largest annual tourism marketplace is coming back to Punta Cana next spring.

The Asociación de Hoteles y Turismo de la República Dominicana (Asonahores) has announced the 2026 edition of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange, scheduled for April 22–24 at the Barceló Bávaro Convention Center. The event has long been considered the country’s premier tourism trade show and one of the Caribbean’s most influential business platforms.

DATE brings together Dominican suppliers — including hotels, tour operators and destination companies — with international buyers through pre-scheduled appointments and structured business rounds. The format is designed to generate future bookings, long-term contracts and new investment, with direct ripple effects across the national economy.

Tourism at a Defining Moment

Organizers framed the upcoming edition against the backdrop of continued tourism growth in the Dominican Republic.

Javier Tejada, first vice president of Asonahores, emphasized the importance of protecting the framework that has supported the sector’s expansion.

“It is important to care for the structures that have allowed this sector and our economy as a whole to flourish, as well as preserve the conditions of stability and legal certainty that allow us to remain competitive and attract foreign investment,” Tejada said.

He also pointed to ongoing national challenges that require continued progress, including land-use regulation, solid waste management and electricity supply. Addressing these issues, he said, will strengthen the country’s positioning as a destination and support broader economic development.

Within that context, DATE functions as a strategic business platform aligned with the long-term vision for Dominican tourism.

Diversification and New Market Focus

Beyond traditional sun-and-sand offerings, DATE 2026 will continue promoting diversification into specialized segments, including cultural tourism, adventure travel, religious tourism, sports tourism and the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector.

Organizers say the strategy is designed to strengthen competitiveness, open new source markets and attract additional investment across multiple niches.

Lendor, speaking on behalf of the organizing association, highlighted the country’s recent performance metrics.

“Record tourist arrival figures, which we are confident we will even surpass this year, once again demonstrate the strength of DATE as a platform for conducting business that drives this smokeless industry we all work for,” he said.

A New Visual Identity and Expanded Access

The 2026 edition will introduce a new graphic identity integrating Dominican culture, landscapes and gastronomy as expressions of national pride. Organizers also plan an updated event design incorporating technology aligned with current market trends.

The digital appointment platform — a core feature of recent editions — will remain in place, allowing participants to manage meetings efficiently. Organizers also confirmed expanded opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises, with the goal of encouraging more inclusive growth across the tourism value chain.

A Cultural Showcase and Investment Catalyst

DATE 2026 will incorporate local artisans and Dominican cultural elements into the event experience, reinforcing national identity before international markets. Organizers position the event as both a business catalyst and a global showcase for the country’s tourism product.

The conference has the backing of the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism, along with key private-sector partners including Barceló Bávaro Grand Resort, Coco Bongo and Meliá Hotels International — underscoring continued public-private collaboration in support of the sector.

With Punta Cana once again hosting the gathering, DATE 2026 is expected to draw international buyers, investors and tourism executives from across the Americas and Europe, reinforcing the Dominican Republic’s role as a regional tourism leader and one of the Caribbean’s most active hospitality markets.
