Pitti Uomo, the Florence-based bi-annual Mecca of menswear, strode into its 109th edition with confidence and record attendance. Many a watch enthusiast was among the 19,000+ designers, fashion-buyers, journalists, and influencers. While vintage watches have long had a place at Pitti, vintage fashion seems to dominate a new wave of attendees as well. Battered Barbours, western wear, and heavy-hardwared Fay jackets found counterpoints with small, even dainty, Cartiers, IWCs, and Omegas. Some attendees seem to be looking to rugged pasts for the uncertain future: Telemetre-equipped Eberhardts, Sherpa-approved Enicas, and jumbo Panerai.
