9 Non-Toxic Kitchen Essentials to Buy on Black Friday

It’s common knowledge that germs abound in kitchens, but what you might not realize is that toxic microplastic particles also pose a threat to our health. They leach from our kitchen utensils, cutting boards, and sponges into our bodies, negatively impacting our guts, arteries, and more along the way.

In an effort to reduce my exposure, I began the process of phasing out my toxic tools and replacing them with clean versions. It’s slow-going but doable, especially if you take it one product category at a time like I did. But if you’re just starting on your non-toxic journey, I have great news for you: There are plenty of Black Friday deals on some of my favorite pieces. Read on to shop the nine that are likely to make a big difference in your kitchen, as they have in mine.

Not only did I hunt down deals on luxury kitchen goods, like Staub Dutch ovens and Made In stockpots, but I also found Souper Cubes freezer molds, Material Kitchen cutting boards, and more affordable pieces on sale. The best part? Deals start at just $14.

Caraway Cookware Set

Caraway

Caraway became famous for its promise of PFAS-free ceramic, nonstick cookware that’s equal parts functional and cute. From its gorgeous color options to its easy-to-clean ceramic coating, it’s understandable why so many people (Food & Wine editors, included) fell in love with this brand. Now that you can score two pans and two pots of varying sizes on sale, there’s no reason I can think of not to buy this set.

Staub 6.15-Quart Wide Oval Cast Iron Dutch Oven

Amazon

A traditional round Dutch oven is great for simmering soups and making risotto, but an oval shape is better for braising legs of lamb, roasting whole chickens, and searing pork loins. Made of cast iron, Staub also happens to be one of our favorite brands for its quality and durability. Buy it now, and it will last for years — if not decades — in your kitchen.

Material Kitchen The MK Free Board

Material

Material Kitchen’s MK Free Board looks like plastic and feels like plastic, but isn’t plastic. Instead, it’s made of natural, plant-based materials that are lightweight and easy to clean in the dishwasher. I’m happy to report that I’ve owned mine for a few months now, and it’s held up beautifully to daily use and multiple dishwasher cycles. Score it now while it’s on sale for the first time…ever.

Teakhaus Edge Grain Carving Board

Amazon

You can also grab this oversized wooden cutting board. It’s a favorite of Amazon shoppers and our editors, as it earned top scores in our tests. It has an impressive heft that keeps the board steady on the counter and a beautiful woodgrain that draws the eye: It’s both a cutting board and a serving platter all in one.

OXO Brew Tea Infuser Basket

Amazon

Shockingly, tea bags are a source of microplastics. Given this information, I’m grabbing this stainless steel tea infuser basket while it’s on sale for Black Friday. It’s reusable, dishwasher-safe, and loved by thousands of Amazon shoppers.

Souper Cubes 1-Cup Silicone Freezer Molds, Set of 2

Amazon

My Souper Cubes Silicone Freezer Mold set is my meal prep secret weapon year-round, but especially in the fall and winter. One of my favorite ways to use it is to freeze creamy steel-cut oatmeal mixed with nuts and berries. Come morning, I pop one perfectly sized block out of its mold, throw it in a bowl, and reheat it in the microwave for an easy breakfast on a busy weekday. I also use it to store soup and make fancy ice cubes. Truthfully, there are a million and one ways to make your Souper Cubes work for you, and plenty of sizes to choose from at Amazon.

Made In 12-Quart Stainless Steel Stockpot

Amazon

It’s essential to have a large stockpot during these cold winter months, especially one that’s made of stainless steel. The metal is quick to heat up, lightweight, and long-lasting, making it an ideal choice for soup season. Made In’s model is a particular favorite at Food & Wine for its impressive capacity and wide, squat shape.

BrüMate Era 40-Ounce Tumbler

Amazon

I’ve always been bad at drinking water, which is why I used to rely heavily on pre-filled plastic bottles. Since learning about their negative impact on the environment — and the negative impact consuming so many microplastic particles can have on my health — I’ve since made the switch to reusable water bottles. I’ve fallen in love with a few brands in my day, but my current fixation is the BrüMate Era. It has a stainless steel straw with a silicone top that’s easy to clean in the dishwasher, a leakproof lid, and a 40-ounce capacity that keeps me sipping for hours before I need to refill it.

Yeti Rambler 34-Ounce French Press

Yeti

The Yeti 34-Ounce French Press has a stainless steel body that’s coated in a ceramic lining. In addition to keeping your coffee hot for hours, it’s also equipped with a filter that stops the brewing process to keep your drink from over-steeping. And the lid locks, so you don’t have to worry about accidentally pouring coffee all over your tent while you’re camping or over your computer while you’re working.

There are so many more Black Friday deals on cookware, bakeware, and kitchen utensils, among many other essentials. Check out our carefully curated roundup to find them.
