Avianca Adds First A320neo as It Expands Network

Avianca has taken delivery of its first Airbus A320neo, marking the start of a major fleet renewal program that will strengthen its short- and medium-haul operations across the Americas — including the Caribbean.

The aircraft is part of the Abra Group’s order for 138 A320neos, alongside plans for 96 Boeing 737 MAX, five Airbus A350 and up to seven A330neo aircraft. The new plane joins Avianca’s growing fleet of 135 narrow-body aircraft, 16 wide-bodies, and nine freighters.

Avianca’s A320neo introduces the Airbus Airspace Cabin, featuring XL overhead bins with 60 percent more storage, dynamic LED lighting, and three rows of Recaro-designed Premium seats in a two-by-two layout — a first in Latin America. The new aircraft also improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions, part of the airline’s broader sustainability plan.

“With the A320neo, Avianca is taking another step toward offering a more comfortable and efficient experience for our customers,” the airline said in a statement.

The addition of the A320neo underscores Avianca’s renewed focus on connectivity across the Americas. The airline currently serves more than 25 countries and 80 destinations, including an expanding Caribbean network.

Avianca flies to several Caribbean gateways such as San Juan, Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, Havana, Aruba and Curaçao, with additional connections through its Bogota and San Salvador hubs — along with the increasingly popular destination of Cartagena on the country’s Caribbean coast.

The new fleet means a sleeker cabin, lower emissions, and a broader network linking the Caribbean to North and South America.
