In the cool, green valley of Panama’s El Valle de Antón, a new wellness retreat has opened its doors. Elysium Spa and Wellness House is the centerpiece of Hotel La Compañía del Valle, the latest addition to The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, and a new draw for travelers seeking wellness and design in Panama’s mountain region.
Set within a crater formed by an extinct volcano, the 22,000-square-foot spa blends the atmosphere of a Roman bathhouse with the raw textures of Panama’s volcanic landscape. Local stone, carved marble, and timber define the interiors, while soft lighting and arched corridors create a calm, grounded sense of place.
The spa’s facilities include thermal pools, hammam-style steam rooms, a Himalayan salt chamber, mud therapy room, and sensory deprivation pool. Guests can choose from treatments that use regional and natural ingredients, including a Cacao Experience Wrap, Wine Therapy, and a Lavender Ritual designed to restore circulation and balance. Each treatment includes access to the spa’s wellness circuit and relaxation areas overlooking the surrounding mountains.
“Elysium Spa was designed as a destination for complete renewal, drawing inspiration from the elements that define El Valle de Antón,” said Chris Lenz, founder of La Compañía Hotels & Resorts, in a statement provided to Caribbean Journal.
The new spa anchors Hotel La Compañía del Valle, a 72-room boutique retreat surrounded by cloud forest and mountain views. The property features Tuscan-inspired architecture and an outdoor sculpture park of more than 200 works in bronze, marble, and steel. It joins its sister hotel, Hotel La Compañía Casco Antiguo in the lovely historic quarter of Panama City, a restored 17th-century Jesuit convent known for its design and heritage.
