Holiday Kitchen Utensils Under $10 at Target

Kitchen utensils are small in size, but they have an outsized impact on how I cook. If not for my favorite spatula, I wouldn’t be able to flip pancakes. Without a sharp zester, I couldn’t grate lemons, Parmesan cheese, or chocolate bars. And if not for my chef’s knives, I would be at a loss for how to chop, mince, and dice.

With the holidays approaching, I’ll be spending more time in the kitchen than is typical. Pies will need prepping, turkeys will need cooking, and vegetables will need peeling, which means my utensils have to be sharp and ready to go. Dull blades will not be tolerated. Luckily, I found a veritable treasure trove of essential kitchen tools under $10 at Target. From tongs to meat thermometers, I’m making sure I have all my gear before holiday cooking begins in earnest.

Kitchen Utensils Under $10 at Target

Cook With Color Silicone Spatula

Target

Silicone utensils are extraordinarily useful. I use mine to scramble eggs, scrape batter out of mixing bowls, fold whipped cream into custard, and for so many more cooking and baking projects. I love that they’re flexible, dishwasher-safe, and unlikely to melt if I leave them in a hot skillet by accident. Target’s Cook With Color line is no different in terms of functionality, but at $1, the tools cost a lot less than what I paid for mine.

Figmint Acacia Wood Spoon

Target

A non-toxic wooden spoon works wonders in a kitchen. Unlike its plastic counterparts, which can potentially leach harmful chemicals into your food, wood is safe to use around hot saucepans. For just $5, I’m thinking about grabbing a few.

Room Essentials Can Opener

Target

A can opener is necessary year-round, but especially in the fall and winter when I make large batches of chili, marinara sauce, and roasted chickpeas. Since all of these recipes require a can opener, you can imagine how excited I was to find a $3 model at Target. You can even choose between black or gray.

Figmint 9-Inch Stainless Steel Tongs

Target

Figmint’s stainless steel kitchen tongs are as stylish as they are useful. While the brand sells them in a few colors, my favorite is the light gold. I love that they’re functional enough to flip chicken breasts while they’re roasting in the oven and beautiful enough to display on my table when guests come over. And I’m not alone. More than 500 Target shoppers agree, with one describing them as “very sturdy and attractive.”

OXO Softworks Pie Server

Target

My mom and I are responsible for the pies on Thanksgiving. We take our job seriously, baking a minimum of eight pies with five different fillings. After so many years of shouldering this duty, we’ve learned that a properly shaped server is essential if you want to get a slice out of the tin in one piece. OXO makes one of the best, with a serrated blade to yield clean edges and an angled head that slides effortlessly under the slice to lift it up and out of the pie pan

Figmint All-Purpose Scraper and Chopper

Target

Whether you’re making buttermilk biscuits or transferring chopped vegetables from a cutting board to a skillet, a bench scraper is essential. For the former, the heat from your hands can melt the cold butter, thus impacting the final texture of your biscuits. It’s for this reason that many chefs use bench scrapers to combine dough ingredients — be it biscuit, pie, or tart. As for the latter, it’s never fun picking smelly onion bits off the floor. The large, flat blade can hold a lot more than your hands, making it an obvious choice when moving large quantities of food from one place to another.

Figmint Soft Grip Swivel Peeler

Target

I’m not sure about you, but a lot of my Thanksgiving prep involves peeling vegetables. It’s an onerous task that’s made easier with a sharp peeler. Instead of struggling to break through thick butternut squash skins and slippery potato peels, more than 100 Target shoppers make quick work of both ingredients with this sharp peeler. Since it costs just $5, I can certainly see the a-peel.

Taylor Instant-Read Meat Thermometer

Target

If you use the Taylor Instant-Read Meat Cooking Thermometer, it will be easy to skip the overcooked turkey this year. It works quickly, delivering a read in less than 10 seconds. Plus, it’s easy to use. Simply stab the thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh until it registers 165°F. Pro tip: Check both thighs before removing your turkey from your oven to ensure it’s evenly cooked.

Figmint Zester and Shield

Target

A sprinkle of zest goes a long way in a recipe. I use it with abandon when I cook, mixing lime zest into salad dressings, rubbing orange peel over poultry, and adding lemon zest to roasted salmon. Since culinary icon Ina Garten says to replace your zester every year, I have my eye on Figmint’s $8 model. Not only is it a great value, but it also has sharp teeth, a protective shield, and is safe to put in the dishwasher.
