Food & Wine staffers have really strong opinions about jigsaw puzzles. When asked, responses ranged from “I finished a puzzle last night” to “hate them with a passion.” For me, the biggest puzzle I’m usually willing to tackle is the challenge of piecing together random pantry items into something resembling a weeknight meal. That said, if the puzzle art is compelling enough, I’m excited to give it a shot. Fortunately, today marks the release of a stunning, seafood tower-themed puzzle that had me very ready to place my order (pun intended).
Out today is an exclusive collaboration between us at Food & Wine and Piecework, a puzzle company that offers puzzles with breathtaking art of scenes like camping adventures, ski trips, and amazing breakfast spreads. Ours is called Tiers of Joy, and it focuses on — you guessed it — a massive tiered seafood tower, featuring the cover art from our December 2022/January 2023 holiday issue.
Food & Wine x Piecework Tiers of Joy Puzzle
Piecework
The 1,000-piece puzzle depicts a beautiful seafood dinner, the kind of meal most of us dream about: oysters, lobster, and shrimp alongside enticing condiments, lovely florals, and flickering candles. Fresh oysters are probably my favorite thing to eat (plus, I’m always the person at the table who needs to try the shrimp cocktail), so I was happy to have a chance to test out the puzzle early. I’m by no means great at doing puzzles, but it’s been fun to sit down with a cocktail at night and try to piece together bits of lobster and peeled lemon. When I finish it, I plan to celebrate with a trip to my favorite seafood spot here in Chicago.
Chatter around our office back in 2022 — when this was the cover art for our holiday issue — declared that the seafood tower “made for not just the best holiday cover we’ve ever published, but one of the best covers we’ve ever published.” Three years later, I’m inclined to agree.
I’ve also been enjoying sifting through Piecework’s other offerings, and have even found some good holiday gift ideas. My close friend Chris would love the L’Apéro puzzle, which depicts a magical seaside apéritif setting; my father-in-law, who is a big-time beer enjoyer, would love doing the Oktoberfest puzzle. I have a lot of puzzleheads in my life — and you probably do, too — so there are a lot of opportunities here.
