Yeti has a loyal fanbase that isn’t afraid to share their thoughts on the brand’s products. The beloved drinkware, such as the Rambler line, and the well-loved Yeti coolers, like the Flip and the Tundra, are top sellers known for their durability and ability to keep items at the proper temperature for an extended time. The fans have already shown Yeti a strong and mixed reaction to its wildly expensive cast iron pan, which was released late last year. And now that the brand’s new on-the-go food storage containers have been out in the world for a couple of months, the responses are coming in hot.
The new Yeti Rambler insulated food jar has fans divided, with some saying, “it keeps food hot for hours,” and others disagreeing, stating “food stays hardly warm.” Some fans report having problems opening the lid, while others don’t have an issue with it and love how easy it is to use and clean. So naturally, we had to check out the Yeti insulated jars and see for ourselves what all the fuss is about.
Yeti Rambler 16-Ounce Insulated Food Jar

The Yeti Rambler food jar offers the same double-wall insulation we’ve come to know and expect from the brand. Thoughtfully designed, the container has a cylindrical shape with a stainless steel rim. The interior has measurement lines so you can portion out ingredients accordingly. It is available in two sizes: 8-ounce and 16-ounce, and comes in 8 different colors, two of which are seasonal: wetlands camo and black forest green. Fans are “stoked” about the new camo pattern.

As for the Yeti food jar keeping contents at the proper temperature? Most fans state that it does the job well. “My steak was still warm 7 hours later,” said one fan. “Four hours later, the food was just as hot as it was when I packed it,” reported a shopper who uses it when they go kayaking. One reviewer even declared it their “favorite product,” writing, “As a school teacher who doesn’t always have time to microwave their lunches this keeps my lunch nice and hot until I am ready to eat!”
Another fan says it “makes for a great ice cream container,” and another one reports that “ice stays forever” even when it’s left in the car. While a small number of reviews (for both sizes) state it “doesn’t keep food warm for very long.” Another thing fans would like to see that we also think would be a nice addition? A handle added to the container to make it easier to grip and hold.
The lid has a nifty feature: A MagVent. When you turn it about halfway off, there’s a slot where it releases hot steam that might have built up. Yet some Yeti fans report that “hot food pressurizes the lid, making it impossible to open.” (Note that the brand does caution users not to put carbonated, dairy, or fermenting food or beverages in the food jar as pressure can build up, making it hard to open.) Was that the issue with some of the reviews? Other fans have “zero trouble opening and closing the jar,” and call it “genius.” When the lid is completely closed, shoppers agree that “it doesn’t leak.” It comes apart into two pieces, which makes it easy to clean. Plus, the entire food jar, including the lid and container, can be tossed in the dishwasher.
Some of the lower-rated reviews were due to the product already being sold out, which, to us, really doesn’t seem fair to rate it based on its popularity. At the same time, others reported an issue with the packaging and arriving with no paper or foam to keep them protected during shipping.
Upon checking out the fans’ mixed reviews, it appears that Yeti has produced another product that, overall, does what it’s supposed to do. There might need to be a few tweaks to the stock and packaging, but the Yeti food jar would be an ideal companion for camping, road trips, and to-go meals.
