Pyper Yachts Is Making Scrub Island Its New BVI Homeport

One of the Caribbean’s fastest-growing luxury yacht charter companies is expanding again. PYPER Yachts will establish a new homeport at Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina in the British Virgin Islands, beginning in November 2025.

The move adds one of the region’s top private-island resorts to PYPER’s network of bases, which already includes Yacht Haven Grande in the US Virgin Islands and Canouan in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. From Scrub Island, the company’s fleet will operate fully crewed luxury charters across the British Virgin Islands, offering weeklong sailing itineraries for groups of up to 10 guests.

Strengthening a Regional Network

For PYPER, the addition of Scrub Island is a strategic one. The resort’s 55-slip marina gives the company a prime launching point in one of the world’s most popular cruising grounds. It also positions the brand to serve travelers looking for seamless yacht experiences from a high-end resort setting.

“Scrub Island Resort and its world-class marina are the perfect launchpad for our fleet,” said Heinrych Pyper, the company’s chief executive. He called the new base an opportunity to bring PYPER’s villa-style charter product to one of the Caribbean’s most desirable sailing destinations.

The company specializes in crewed charters that include a captain and private chef, with larger vessels carrying expanded crews. Charters are typically booked for at least four nights, though most itineraries stretch a full week and cover multiple islands in the BVI.

A Boost for Scrub Island

For Scrub Island, the partnership adds a new layer to its marina operations and positions the resort more firmly within the region’s luxury yachting circuit. “Together we are introducing guests to a new dimension of Caribbean exploration,” said Sandra Grisham-Clothier, the resort’s general manager.

Opened in 2010, Scrub Island sits just off Tortola and has become known for its quiet setting and upscale atmosphere. The resort has 52 rooms and suites, a collection of private villas, two beaches, a waterfront pool and spa, and a marina that can accommodate yachts up to 160 feet. Guests arriving at Tortola’s Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport can reach the resort via a short private water taxi ride.

Luxury Charter Momentum

PYPER’s BVI expansion comes amid growing demand for luxury yacht travel in the Caribbean, particularly crewed charters that combine resort-style service with the flexibility of sailing. The British Virgin Islands remain one of the most sought-after cruising regions in the hemisphere, thanks to calm waters, short inter-island distances and well-developed marina infrastructure.

The addition of Scrub Island gives the company a stronger foothold in the northern Caribbean and reflects the continued blurring of lines between luxury hotels and private charter experiences.
