Tupperware’s fame is so absolute that its name is synonymous with the food storage container category as a whole. My family exclusively refers to all of our containers as “Tupperware,” despite the fact that our collections span a wide range of brands. I would chalk it up to a quirky habit passed down from my grandparents to my parents and from my parents to my sister and me, but almost everyone I know does the same thing.
Clearly, Tupperware is to storage containers what Kleenex is to tissues or Band-Aid is to bandages: A brand that is so ubiquitous, it is the product category. This is unlikely to change in the near future, especially since Tupperware added Voila, its first-ever non-toxic glassware line in over seven decades.

The three containers in the set have borosilicate glass bases that won’t shatter under the broiler, crack in the freezer, warp in the oven, or explode in the dishwasher. While the square shape ($24) is great for fruit cobblers, the extra-large rectangle ($34) is ideal for cheesy lasagnas, and the round ($24) is optimal for pot pies, any dish will work for any recipe. You can buy them separately, but the trio is also available as a bundle for $74.
Beyond Voila’s practical shapes and non-toxic glass construction, the line stands out for its BPA-free lids. Equipped with a built-in steam valve that can be opened when using the microwave and closed when storing food in the refrigerator, it’s finally possible to reheat my lunch without splattering it all over the walls.

The brand sent me a set for my very own. After using the square dish to make a biscuit-topped cobbler — the jammy, caramelized result of which was almost entirely consumed by two people in less than 20 minutes — I can happily report that Tupperware cracked the code on cooking, serving, and storing a recipe in the same container. It’s a pleasure not afforded by all brands, and one that I won’t easily part with now that I’ve gotten a taste of the good life. I especially love that I can rely less on wasteful plastic wrap and more on a reusable lid that does a better job of preserving the food within.
With this release, Tupperware is further cementing its reputation as a brand to be reckoned with. I look forward to seeing how it incorporates more non-toxic glass pieces into its portfolio. For now, the Voila collection is a strong start.
